For about half a year Compacfoam has built news premises in businesspark Wolkersdorf (Lower Austria). 'Due to the enormous growth of our company the new building was absolutely necessary', says CEO Florian Nowy, 'as we are able to triplicate our output capacity'.

The moving to the new building is planned in Juni 2013.

COMPACFOAM® - the innovative development of Expanded Polystyrene (EPS)

Composite material do not replace at the least by the rising global energy prices but more and more by conventional, associated with large weight materials. The diverse and innovative applications in the industrial and handicraft area show that the required strength, coupled with efficient weight reduction, with reinforced plastics can be optimally reached. COMPACFOAM® with its material properties offers a convincing solution, with which both the vehicle industry and the manufacturers of modern composite materials can achieve the required savings goals in terms of weight and energy. COMPACFOAM® is 100% made of expanded polystyrene, which is compacted under a patented process to print solid core material, and its production waste is completely returned to the material cycle. 

With weight savings of up to 70% compared with timber materials a composite material remains at disposal to the modern automotive industry, particularly the manufacturers of motor homes and yachts, which significantly increases the potential for saving energy in addition to the payload capacity. The high-pressure-resistant and screwed core material COMPACFOAM® is already used in many lightweight components such as furniture panels, sandwich panels or partitions.

In addition the following material properties meet substantially:

- Low weight (approx. 200kg / m³)

- Compressive strength up to 3.74 N / mm²

- Long-term stability - creep deformation under load <3%

- Water absorption capacity max. 5 -10%

Other properties such as frost resistance, dimensional stability and screwability and the easiest handling with standard woodworking tools predestine this new composite material for various applications. In addition, a pure-grade base material is available with COMPACFOAM®, whose production waste is already classified in many countries as recyclable material and is supplied from manufacturer side after repurchasing of the material cycle In combination with fibre glass, carbon or aluminium deposits resulting from COMPACFOAM® heavy-duty composite rods are offered despite low weight with high rigidity and a low cost production price.

Areas of application for these rods are structural components in

- Building construction (windows and façades)

- Industrial construction (cooling devices, thrust bearing)

- Vehicle construction (body and interior fittings)

- Mould and model

As a synergy effect an optimal insulating material is also available to the leading design engineers in addition to the stability and strength properties. The thermal conductivity of COMPACFOAM® ranges from 0.04 W / mK to 0.09 W / mK, depending on the required density class.

COMPACFOAM® already has a presence in all major European markets, and the material properties are now confirmed by relevant testing institutes. High-insulation, insulation material for modern sub-components

The assembly of highly insulated components in the shell stage requires both in the planning and in the execution of a selection of materials that must withstand various stresses:

- a modern thermal insulation

- high compressive strength

- high stresses due to day-to-day operation

With a thermal conductivity of 0.04 W/mK and compressive strengths of up to 10,000 kN/m² COMPACFOAM® provides the ideal building material for such loads, which has proved successful for the following applications:

As insulation threshold under windows and sliding doors of all types of materials

The COMPACFOAM® insulation threshold is based on the depth of the frame used and is available with profile contours more notably profile systems as well as a smooth universal design. With the sophisticated COMPACFOAM® stack contour, local height differences can be compensated for with a few flicks of the wrist. The high compressive strength of COMPACFOAM® allows for both the screw through assembly in the unfinished floor and the direct bolting of construction angles. Occasional irregularities of the floor + screed are easily offset by the ductile material behaviour without causing unwanted deformations or fractures in the material.

As combination insulation threshold with integrated console for exterior window sills

Especially with floor to ceiling door systems such as windows and doors, sliding and folding doors, the load-bearing lining the outside windowsill often represents a particular challenge. The COMPACFOAM® combination insulation threshold offers the optimal solution and can be accessed with various inclination angles and radii. This profile contour orients itself underneath the door frame at the used profile system; radius and inclination angle on the geometry of the window sill and the existing or deployed thermal insulation composite system (ETICS).

As relining commercial door threshold profiles

The COMPACFOAM® relining offers, together with its excellent thermal insulation, the required material property so that it can also be attached to different system profiles with smaller screw sizes. Also, this material property offers barrier free applications where the required resistance is demanded in combination with low construction height. The requirements for the attachment of floor strike plates and the suitability for enhanced anti burglary protection can be achieved with the COMPACFOAM® relining. The low water absorption capacity of about 5 - 10% guarantees in contrast to wood applications, the necessary dimensional stability and resistance to frost and thus the desired duration functionality. All necessary sealing measures such as sealing tapes and foils are mounted with appropriate primer and adhesive products professionally on the building and on the COMPACFOAM® insulation threshold.

On 1st October 2012 COMPACFOAM GmbH opened its application centre for windows and façades in Gladbeck, North Rhine-Westphalia.

On the campus of innovation centre at Wiesenbusch Gladbeck, one of the largest technology centres for efficient energy systems technology for building supplies, planners, designers and manufacturing companies of windows, doors, façades, winter gardens and sun protection devices,  an adequate environment and a competent team can be found. "With Thomas Bednarz we have gained an experienced expert and industry insider as product manager who has organized our activities in the field of energetic building restoration and building equipment and is a competent partner for our existing and future clients. COMPACFOAM – the thermal bridge free mounting solution


 

Optimal pressure pad for heavy duty fixings on walls with full thermal protection

The attachment of modern elements at highly thermal insulated facades represents a not insignificant challenge for both planners and manufacturers; it is valid nevertheless to agree upon static maximum stress with the requirements of optimal thermal insulation. In particular, the installation of solar protection devices such as awnings, shutters and fins protruding from systems in buildings with external thermal insulation composite system or bivalve masonry walls, requires pressure-resistant documents that provide a direct derivation of the loads occurring in masonry.


The same applies for the connection of conservatories or patio roofs on existing buildings. COMPACFOAM has developed different systems for a universal block, the front end is based on the footprint of the fasteners and can be cut with the simplest tool in the specific installation situation. With such a mounting solution on board, the installer can react quickly and individually, which is a simplification of the assembly, and thus has a significant time advantage.

"From the beginning we have considered COMPACFOAM for punctual or linear application. So far, individual print documents were prepared for each project. Since the local situation often deviates from what was planned, our customers then had to manage with compensating plates. Thus, the step was set to a universal length that we have adapted with regards to the delivery and storage optimization at the linear measure of the Euro pallet", explains Florian Nowy, CEO and developer of COMPACFOAM. For the universal blocks, the new company offers sawing training, with which the mechanic can properly cut the printing documents locally and right-angled.

The mounting of components using COMPACFOAM can be done with two load-dependent variants: As screw-through or surface mounting.

With the screw through assembly COMPACFOAM serves as a space-maintaining pressure pad and thus directs the transverse forces into the building. In the case of very heavy loads such as be of awnings, cantilever systems or maintenance catwalks, the shear forces of COMPACFOAM can be controlled and removed using press-fit dowels

Awnings for selected systems are already assembled blocks whose millings take the hole picture of the console.

The surface mounting is the ideal for middle load cases and especially for thermal bridge free application. COMPACFOAM is secured by a step drilling on the building and serves as a base pull-out strength, then to the components such as how windows or sliding doors, lighting equipment or billboards may be screwed.

Another application is in the building physics correct positioning of window and door units to a
building with full thermal protection. Here COMPACFOAM serves as a console inside the insulation level over which the element can derive its vertical loads to the construction plane. The horizontal loads are led in a conventional manner on frame anchors into the building. This provides the window fitters with a material that combines the best heat insulation with high strength and allows for a professional installation inside the insulation level.

Since the market introduction, the young enterprise has been faced with an increasing number of new inquiries and challenges, whilst currently offering the product of the same name in 6 different density classes of up to 15,000 kN/m². The thermal conductivity of COMPACFOAM ranges from 0.04 W / mK to 0.09 W / mK, depending on the required density class.

The low water absorption capacity of about 5 - 10% guarantees a high form and frost resistance. The ductile material behaviour, i.e., the elongation at break is over 10% and thus reaches a damage-free compensation for unevenness of the ground.

Due to the lightweight nature, COMPACFOAM can be used as extension material for various applications. Whether as a dimensionally stable and pressure resistant core for sandwich panels or veneered furniture boards, this material in many respects convinces all participation in the construction.

COMPACFOAM is nominated for the Austrian State Prize in INNOVATION 2012!

COMPACFOAM GmbH is nominated for the Austrian State Prize for innovation in 2012 by the Federal Ministry of Economy, Family and Youth! 

The Austrian COMPACFOAM GmbH was nominated for the project "open diffusion constructive window insulation profile " for obtaining the State Prize Innovation 2012. This is awarded annually by the Austrian Federal Ministry for Economy, Family and Youth. The company has qualified from 627 nationwide submissions and is now in the final selection with five other companies.
